The INA oil and gas company said on Tuesday it had reduced natural gas production because of technical difficulties on its gas platforms in the northern Adriatic caused by extremely cold weather in the country, and had reduced deliveries to large industrial consumers until normalisation of production in the northern Adriatic.

This was done in order to ensure uninterrupted supply to preferred clients such as households, hospitals, schools, kindergartens and other public institutions, INA said, adding that all necessary steps were being taken to normalise the supply, including imports of additional quantities of natural gas.

"Considering high gas consumption, which reached a record amount of 16.5 million cubic metres per day yesterday, (INA) has contacted large industrial consumers and agreed with them to reduce gas deliveries to HEP (power company), Rijeka oil refinery and Petrokemija (artificial fertiliser manufacturer) until regular production in the northern Adriatic has been restored," the company said in a statement.
