Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) leader Danijel Srb said on Monday that completion of European Union accession negotiations, which is expected this year, was not a success, but that the present government would be considered successful if it reduced the unemployment and increased the standard of living, adding that EU membership in itself "won't ensure it."

Addressing reporters during a visit to the northeastern city of Virovitica, Srb said that the HSP wanted Croatia to finally have an economic development strategy, expressing regret that the recent government reshuffle had failed to produce it.

Srb said that his party was also unhappy with the constitutional changes concerning the rights of the ethnic minorities, as a result of which he said all citizens were not equal any more. He added that the HSP would be working on ensuring that "such an undemocratic Constitution" was abandoned as soon as possible.
