The arrested war crimes suspect Goran Hadzic could be extradited to the Hague tribunal as early as Friday, his lawyer Toma Fila said in Belgrade on Thursday.

Hadzic has formally waived his right to appeal against the court decision that the necessary conditions for his transfer have been met, which has cleared the way for his extradition to The Hague, Fila said.

Hadzic, who was captured by Serbian security agents in the Fruska Gora area of northern Serbia on Wednesday morning after evading arrest for seven years, is being held in the detention unit of the Special War Crimes Court in Belgrade.

Deputy war crimes prosecutor Bruno Vekaric said that Justice Minister Snezana Malovic was expected to sign an order for Hadzic's extradition, adding that his extradition depended on security assessments.

Fila said that Hadzic could be extradited as early as Friday evening after meetings with his family. Some of the family members visited Hadzic on Thursday and others were expected to visit him on Friday.

Fila quoted doctors as saying that Hadzic was in good health.
