The attorney for the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Vladimir Gredelj, said on Thursday evening that the Chief State Prosecutor's Office (DORH) and Chief Prosecutor Mladen Bajic were also responsible for the leakage of the footage of the alleged testimony of former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, given before anti-corruption investigators on July 21 in connection with charges against him relating to war profiteering in the Hypo bank loan case and the taking of 10 million euros in bribes from the Hungarian oil company MOL, which has been posted on the online video sharing site YouTube.
"Bajic should either start working immediately and secure an efficient investigation in his house and outside, or he should resign," Gredelj told reporters late on Thursday evening, after the media in Croatia reported that the video recording was posted on November 27 by the user named RemetinecLIVE.
Gredelj said that the Chief State prosecutor's Office was one of the institutions critical for the functioning of the Croatian state, notably today when the fight against corruption was in full swing.
The loss of trust into Croatian judiciary institutions could have a negative effect on citizens and weaken the fight against corruption, Gredelj said.
The HDZ lawyer believes Chief State Prosecutor Bajic should have investigated all potential perpetrators of the crime of revealing confidential information and that, according to him, are persons taking part in the proceedings against Sanader - lawyers, the defendants, judges, deputy chief state prosecutors and clerks working at DORH.
Gredelj said he was shocked at the claim in the media that the leakage of the classified testimony would not harm DORH.
He added that the publication of the classified testimony could affect the HDZ election results.
