First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusic on Thursday said that the government's opinion concerning 'Lex Perkovic' has now been coordinated but she could not say when amendments to the law relating to the European Arrest Warrant would be made.

"I cannot say when that is going to happen but I think that we have shown that we are now coordinated and heading in the direction of normal functioning in that regard", Pusic told reporters after the cabinet meeting who wondered whether the amendments would be procrastinated.

She commented that this in no way impacted the possible initiative to consider potential inequalities of certain member states with regard to this matter. "That initiative is possible by all means but as long as these rules are in force, Croatia has to respect them", she said.

Asked whether Croatia's latest position relating to 'Lex Perkovic' would satisfy the European Commission which had said that it would prepare possible measures against Croatia just in case, Pusic said that she thinks the Commission can see what is going on and that is part of its "normal functioning".

"Our cooperation with the Commission is for a very, very long term and I don't see any reason or need to strain relations with member states", she said adding that the Commission had objections to many states and will have them toward Croatia in the future too.

"But that is one of the important reasons why we are a member of the EU - on the one hand to recognise the rules and behave according to them and on the other, we have the opportunity to influence or to instigate initiatives to improve or fix them when we think they aren't entirely as they should be", Pusic believes.

Asked why the prime minister changed his mind so quickly, she said that this wasn't necessarily so. "We spoke about that quite a bit and observed the various aspects and that didn't come about that quickly but in the end we came to a stance of how to approach the problem: while the rule is in force we will function within it and at the same time we will go ahead with the initiative to improve the rule", said Pusic.
