Farmers from the eastern Vukovar-Srijem County who were protesting on the southern Vinkovci ring-road with several hundred tractors are leaving the road after last night's agreement between Agriculture Minister Petar Cobankovic and farmers' representatives, county police said on Monday, adding traffic had returned to normal along all roads in the county.

The president of the county farmers' association, Tomislav Pokrovac, told Hina he expected the government to abide by the agreement reached with farmers.

"Since this was the first time that such intense and persistent farmers' protests were held in Croatia, I believe the government will honour the agreement," he said, adding the protests would not have taken place had the government been fair to farmers.

Under last night's agreement in Djakovo, farmers won the payment of incentives for the 2009-10 spring sowing in the amount of 86 per cent. Sixty per cent of the incentives will be paid in cash, the first part by March 31 and the second by April 15, in equal amounts.

The remaining 26 per cent refers to HRK 600 kuna per hectare that will be paid in intermediary products.

As for the remaining HRK 205 million of incentives from the 2008-09 spring sowing, they will be paid in the full amount by June 2011.

Farms larger than 300 hectares are excluded from these measures.
