Downward trend in car sales registered in Croatia in H1 2010

In June this year, 3,691 new cars were sold in Croatia, or 1.1 percent (40 vehicles) more than in May, but 10.4 percent fewer than in June 2009, according to figures released by Promocija Plus agency this past week.

In the the first half of 2010, 19,448 new cars were sold, or 30.4 percent fewer than in the same period of 2009.

Wolkswagen took the leading position in June with 512 vehicle sold and a market share of 13.87 percent.

Another German car-maker Opel followed with 356 vehicles sold and a 9.65-percent market share

Peugeot was third-placed with 310 cars sold and a 8.4-percent share in the market.

Other popular car brands included Chevrolet, Skoda, Renault, Hyundai and Citroen.

Opel was the best-selling make of car in the first half of 2010, with 2.391 vehicles sold and a market share of nearly 12.29 percent.

The top five car brands also included Volkswagen (2,354 vehicles sold), Chevrolet (1,633), Renault (1,535) and Peugeot (1,478).
