The newly-built commercial and residential complex Cvjetni, located in Cvjetni Trg square in central Zagreb, was formally opened to the public on Thursday.

The Cvjetni complex, built by Hoto Group, features about 50 shops, bars and restaurants, and will create 715 new jobs. The investment was worth 108 million euros.

At the same time, a group of activists of the non-governmental organisations The Right to the City and Green Action began a protest against the construction project.

On Wednesday evening, about 100 activists protested for about two hours against the opening of the new complex, obstructing an opening ceremony given for VIP guests. Police later said that one demonstrator had been detained for verbally abusing a police officer.
