Car sales in Croatia up month on month, down year on year

Last month 3,651 new cars were sold in Croatia, or 17 per cent more than in April, but 15 per cent fewer than in May 2009, according to figures released by Promocija Plus agency this past week.

In the the first five months of 2010, 15,757 new cars were sold, or 26 per cent fewer than in the same period of 2009.

Opel retained the leading position as the most sold make of car in Croatia, with 405 vehicles sold and a market share of 11.1 per cent. It was followed by Volkswagen with almost the same market share and 403 vehicles sold. The third placed was Chevrolet with 300 vehicles sold and a market share of 8.2 per cent.

Other popular car brands included Renault, Peugeot, Skoda, Hyundai, Ford, Citroen, and Mazda.

Opel was also the best-selling make of car in the first five months of 2010, with 2.035 vehicles sold and a market share of nearly 13 per cent.

The top five car brands also included Volkswagen (1,842 vehicles sold), Chevrolet (1,349), Renault (1,266) and Peugeot (1,168).

The top selling car model in the first five months of this year was the Opel Astra with 975 vehicles sold, followed by the Volkswagen Polo (791), the Opel Corsa (606), the Volkswagen Golf (542) and the Renault Megane (456).

The Opel Astra was also the best-selling model in May, followed by the Ford Focus, the Volkswagen Golf, the Volkswagen Polo and the Opel Corsa.
