The City of Zagreb has received the SYNAPTIC Award for Excellence for the best public transport solution relating to the safety of senior citizens, Mayor Milan Bandic announced on Friday.
The award was conferred as part of the Civitas Elan project in the Swedish city of Gavle on Friday, the day when Zagreb celebrates the Day of the City.
"We are proud that the excellence of the City of Zagreb has been recognised once again in Europe," Bandic told a press conference the city administration building. "Considering a growing portion of elderly people in Europe, our example will certainly be an encouragement to others, just as we will be encouraged by examples from others," he added.
Along with Zagreb, Switzerland received the award for the best multimodal door-to-door travel solution and London for the best mobility management solution.
SYNAPTIC stands for Synergy of New Advanced/Adapted Public Transport Solutions Improving Connectivity in Northwest Europe. The purpose of the project is to improve the exchange of good practice among mobility projects with a view to enhancing public transport in Northwest Europe.
