World Bank Country Director for Central Europe and the Baltic Countries Peter Harrold said in the eastern Croatian town of Vukovar on Monday that the Croatian government had recognised on time the challenges on the path to the country's economic recovery, expressing confidence Croatia would be successful in reviving its economic growth.

There are two big challenges ahead of Croatia - reducing its fiscal deficit and supporting investments, notably private investments, Harrold told reporters, adding that Croatia's EU entry would be an excellent opportunity for its economic growth.

According to him, the key to Croatia's economic recovery is launching an investment cycle that would enable greater economic growth and help the national economy overcome the crisis.

Harrold said that Vukovar-Srijem County had possibilities for greater development since it was among the less developed Croatian regions, but stressed that that would depend on the people living there.

We hope both the county and the town of Vukovar will develop faster, he said.

Harrold also met with local officials.
