Emergency measures against flooding were still in force in the southern towns of Ploce, Metkovic, Opuzen and Kula Norinska on Saturday morning. The water level of the Neretva River at Metkovic was falling last night, but it was rising at Opuzen and at the place where the Neretva enters the Adriatic Sea, the national protection and rescue service DUZS reported.
Officials of the Hrvatske Vode water management company said the Neretva would take several days to return to its bed from the flooded areas on its right bank at Metkovic.
Meanwhile, public lighting on the right bank of the Neretva at Metkovic was restored.
The Dubrovnik-Neretva County health services have advised local residents to exclusively drink water from the public water supply system and not from their own water tanks or wells.
The state road D9 on Saturday morning was still closed to traffic in Metkovic, as were the road D62 (Mali Prolog-Kula Norinska), the county roads Rogotin-Komin-Kula Norinska, Vid-Metkovic and Bitelic Donji - Botelic Gornji and the border crossings of Doljani and Gabela Polje.
As for the situation with floods in the central Lika region, local roads leading to the settlements of Susanj, Rudinka, Gornji Kosinj and Kosinjski Bakovac were closed to traffic and local residents were using boats for transport. Emergency flood measures have been introduced for the settlements Donji Kosinj, Lipovo Polje, Gornji Kosinj and Kosinjski Bakovac.
Local schools were not working, and Red Cross and rescue teams were supplying local residents with food and water.
The sea level in the area of Sibenik was on the decline, with the water level of the Krka and Butisnica rivers falling.
The road D47 in Sisak-Moslavina County was closed to traffic at Kuljani due to the spilling over of the Una River.
