Austria's Social Democratic member of the European Parliament, Hannes Swoboda, has called for the clarification of accusations against former Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader whom the media and politicians connect with corruption scandals.

"Clarification is very important for Croatia. Prime Minister (JadrankaKosor) is courageously dealing with it," Swoboda was quoted by theWirtschaftsblatt newspaper as saying on Thursday.

Corruption charges against others must be clarified, Swoboda said, stressingthat it was primarily on the Croatian authorities to clarify those accusations.

The Austrian MEP believes that "certain groups" in Croatia have astrong interest in not being disclosed.

Swoboda does not believe that Social Democrats in Croatia would cause earlyparliamentary elections but he advocates that ahead of the country's accessionto the EU "different political options assume top posts in thecountry".
