Slovenia supports Kosovo in visa liberalisation process, says Tuerk

Slovenian President Danilo Tuerk, who is at the helm of a state delegation visiting Kosovo, said in Pristina on Monday that good relations between Kosovo and Slovenia were a factor of regional stability, and promised his country's support in the process of visa liberalisation.

Tuerk and his host, Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu, said after talks thatKosovo and Slovenia were strengthening relations in all areas. Tuerk said thatSlovenia would continue supporting Kosovo and promoting relations between thetwo countries as a factor of stability in Southeast Europe.

He also conveyed Slovenia's support to the process of visa liberalisationfor Kosovo.

The Slovenian president described as a success Kosovo's acceptance to theWorld Bank and the International Monetary Fund, saying that the securitysituation was the main precondition for economic and political development, aprocess in which the international community should provide assistance as well.

Tuerk also supported free movement of people from the region to EUcountries.

The Slovenian president also met Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci andParliament Speaker Jakup Krasniqi.

He visited the NATO-led international Kosovo Force (KFOR) command inPristina, as well as the town of Pec, where a 380-strong Slovenian KFORcontingent is serving.

This is the first visit of a Slovenian president to Kosovo whoseindependence was recognised by most EU countries at the time when Slovenia heldthe EU presidency in the first half of 2008.

A statement issued after a meeting between Slovenian Defence MinisterLjubica Jelusic and Kosovo Security Force Minister Fehmi Mujota said thatSlovenia would give EUR 1.8 million to the Kosovo Security Force.
