Serbia will hold presidential elections on 6 May, the same day when parliamentary, regional and local elections will be organised, the Serbian electronic media reported on Friday, adding that the incumbent president Boris Tadic is expected to tender his resignation in early April.

According to the local www.eizbori.com web portal, Tadic is due to resign on 6 April so that the first round of the presidential election could be held on 6 May.

The media report that Tadic is likely to announce his resignation in the coming days.

Tadic won the 3 February 2008 presidential polls, and his five year term in office began running on 15 February that year when he was sworn in.

Under the constitution, a presidential election is called 60 days before the expiry of the term of the incumbent president and the procedure should be completed 30 days before the expiry.

In the event of early elections, the president should tender his resignation.
