Former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader will remain in hospital until Saturday after he underwent medical examinations in the coronary care unit of the Zagreb clinical hospital on Friday, the unit's head, Dr. Davor Milicic, reported.

"Ivo Sanader has been examined and will definitely remain in hospital until tomorrow when we will see with relevant agencies how to continue medical treatment which he needs because of his heart problems," the doctor said.

He declined to divulge details of the patient's health condition, explaining that he must ask for the patient's approval for that.

Sanader's arraignment before the Zagreb County Court in the Hypo bank loan case, which was to have been held on Friday morning, was adjourned due to his health problems after an expert witness established Sanader was unfit for the hearing.

The former PM and HDZ chief goes on trial over charges of war profiteering. He is suspected of having taken in the mid-1990s, when he was Deputy Foreign Minister, 3.6 million kuna in commission for a loan Croatia got from the Austrian Hypo bank.

This is the first case against Sanader which has entered the trial stage. Sanader has been in the custody of the Remetinec prison since mid-July when he was extradited by Austria.
