According to journalists' assessments, police detained more than 20 activists of nongovernmental organisations Pravo Na Grad and Zelena Akcija protesting against a controversial construction project in the historic centre of Zagreb after they blocked the entry to the Hoto group construction site in Varsavska Street on Thursday.

Tomislav Tomasevic of the Zelena Akcija association, who was also detained, told reporters activists would not stop protesting.

Teodor Celakoski of the Pravo Na Grad association, who was not detained by the police, told reporters activists would continue to stage mass protests in the fall, while their activities during the summer would be unpredictable.

Police have shortly blocked traffic down Gunduliceva Street, at the intersection with Varsavska. The street was reopened after the protesters were arrested.

Two weeks ago, police arrested some 150 activists for putting up passive resistance to the continuation of construction works in Varsavska Street
