Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said on Tuesday that at her meeting with trade unionists and employers on Monday there was no mention of annulling the extra tax that had been imposed on all incomes last summer due to the financial crisis, and that there was no mention of changing the Value Added Tax rate system, but that they had discussed possibilities of improving their cooperation.
"I'll be the first one to ask for the annulment of the (crisis) tax in its entirety or of one rate, provided that indicators show the stability of finances," Kosor said during her visit to the eastern town of Ilok.
The premier said that her government would continue with plans for housing construction subventions.
She said that although some criticised a plan which she recently mentioned about the government's support to housing construction, many backed the plan and the government would propose a bill about it next week.
According to her, the government expects this week first results of measures it had taken to strengthen economic activity. Kosor recalled that those measures were elaborated by her cabinet in cooperation with the Croatian National Bank, the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development and commercial banks.
"Our aim has been to give money, that is loans and grants, to those who can stay afloat. We are working on additional projects for others who are in economic trouble not caused by the global crisis," she said.
