Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor on Monday described as cowardly the statements Social Democratic Party (SDP) president Zoran Milanovic made about the government's economic measures made over the weekend.

"Mr. Milanovic said they were poor, that they were copied from the SDP. Then he told the public that once he came to power he would restore all the tax benefits we're planning to revoke through this tax reform and economic recovery programme," said Kosor.

"That's cowardice, pure and simple, as people should be told what this is about in a situation in which we are trying to reach a general consensus on difficult and painful cuts that have to be made and which, according to all experts, will provide for economic development. It's cowardly to say that some of that will be returned only if Mr. Milanovic comes to power," said Kosor.

She called on him to contribute to the implementation of the government's economic recovery programme instead of criticising it. "I expect the SDP to support the measures as, according to experts from the (Croatian National Bank), the World Bank, the IMF as well as eminent Croatian economic experts, they will contribute to economies and organising the system," said Kosor.
