Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic said on Thursday evening he did not plan a government reshuffle and told the unionists who announced mass protests over a difficult situation in the country and the government’s economic and social policy to go to the polls.

"The government is a political team and is so much more competent than the previous government, beyond comparison,” Milanovic told Croatian Television, underlining that the government reshuffle was not in plans.

He said the government was comprised of competent people who were doing their best when it came to fiscal consolidation and structural reforms.

"This is not a government that steals, this is the government of labour,” said PM, adding that not a single country in the world was pulled out of a deep structural crisis by experts.

Commenting on the union announcement of mass protests on May 1 in Zagreb’s central Ban Jelalcic square, the PM said the unions were always telling the same story, calling on them to go to the polls.

“For the past 20 years we have been looking at the same people. It’s always the same story," he said.

Asked if Croatia was done with severe cuts as he announced last weeks, the PM said he would do his best to end the cuts and move forward, adding that nothing can happen without the economic growth. He stressed salaries and pensions would not be reduced this year.
