A parade in support of a gay pride parade taking place in the southern seaport of Split on Saturday was held in the northern seaport of Rijeka, with about 300 people walking down the city centre.

The initiative for the support parade, called Ad Hoc Initiative, was launched on Facebook. According to the police, which provided security, there were no problems or incidents.

One of the organisers, Svetozar Nilovic, said the parade was organised to show support for Split Pride and citizens of a difficult sexual orientation.

He said entire families and children took part in the Rijeka parade and that participants wanted to show people of a difficult sexual orientation that they respected and loved them.

Fascism is still strong and it should be fought in public, where everything comes to light, he said.
