Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor said on Wednesday his government did not need sponsors for the June 6 referendum at which Slovenians would decide if they were in favour of his last year's border arbitration agreement with Croatian PM Jadranka Kosor.

Pahor was commenting on suggestions that Serbian President Boris Tadic might support his referendum campaign.

Responding to a question from Serbian press after meeting Serbian PM Mirko Cvetkovic in Ljubljana, Pahor said he saw no reason why someone would mediate in Slovenia in this way, although he appreciated the assistance and support of world leaders.

Pahor said the referendum was a home issue at which Slovenians would decide on the border arbitration agreement by their conscience.

Some Croatian media have said that the US and Great Britain want Tadic to become engaged in the referendum on the Croatia-Slovenia border arbitration agreement so that it could eventually be ratified in Slovenia. The Croatian parliament has already ratified the deal.
