Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor on Sunday sent President Ivo Josipovic a proposed agenda for a meeting of the National Security Council, recommending that it be held already on Sunday or on Monday morning.

"I suggest we discuss a very important subject and that is protection of the institutions of the state, so we all can do our work without hindrance, as well as protection of those who lead the fight against corruption and crime, and protection of all institutions against any pressure from anyone," Kosor told reporters outside the Cabinet office after meeting Interior Minister Tomislav Karamarko.

Kosor said the Council should also discuss the situation ahead of a visit by Pope Benedict XVI to Croatia, scheduled for June 4 and 5.

Kosor said that she and Karamarko were well prepared for a Council meeting and that it should be held "immediately, today or tomorrow morning" considering President Josipovic's scheduled obligations. She added that "everyone who has something to say" should attend so as to avoid "any subsequent misinterpretations."

When asked if she supported national chief of police Oliver Grbic, Kosor said that all aspects of functioning of the state institutions, including the police, should be considered.

"The police must be able to do their work without obstruction, without pressure from anyone and that's why we need to clear all things up. I think the police do their work well, and the chief of police will probably be invited to the Council meeting," the prime minister said.
