Josipovic wins in all county seats but Gospic

The newly elected Croatian President Ivo Josipovic won the most votes in the Croatian presidential runoff in all major cities but Gospic, which is the only county seat where the majority voted for this rival Milan Bandic.

Bandic captured 62.54 percent of the vote in Gospic, while Josipovicgarnered 37.46 percent of votes.

Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate Josipovic won in all other countyseats, capturing 60.29 per cent of the vote (1,339,330 of cast ballots),according to preliminary official results released by the State ElectoralCommission (DIP) at midnight.

Josipovic won 62.19 percent of votes in Zagreb where 267,796 voters casttheir ballots for him. The mayor of the Croatian capital captured 37.81 percentor 162,825 votes in Zagreb. The turnout in Zagreb was 60.66 percent, namely438,213 of 722,451 voters went to the polls.

Josipovic won the most votes in the northern city of Varazdin, where hegarnered 83.91 percent of the vote. His victory was also convincing in thenorthern town of Cakovec (82.85 percent) and in the northern Adriatic town ofPula (82.66 percent).

In Koprivnica Josipovic won 78.3 percent of the vote, in Rijeka 72.2 percentand in Krapina 70.64 percent of all votes.

In most county seats, Josipovic won between 60 and 68 percent of the vote.

In Virovitica Josipovic won 67.63 percent, in Bjelovar 66.84 percent, inOsijek 66.73 percent in Zadar 65.01 percent and in Pozega 63.22 percent of thevote.

In the southern Adriatic city of Dubrovnik, Josipovic captured 62.72 percentand in the central city of Karlovac 62.73 percent of the vote.

Although he was publicly supported in the runoff by Split mayor ZeljkoKerum, Bandic did not manage to win in the seat of Split-Dalmatia County wherehe received 38.87 percent of the vote, while Josipovic captured 61.13 percent.

The SDP candidate won 60.45 percent of the vote in Sisak, 60.07 percent inVelika Gorica, 59.06 percent in Sibenik, 54.95 percent in Vukovar and 54.55percent in Slavonski Brod.

Bandic won a total of 882.005 votes and apart from Lika-Senj County and thecity og Gospic, he also won the most voted in the diaspora (92.05 percent or104,137 votes).
