Josip Leko of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) was unanimously elected the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament on Wednesday, succeeding his recently deceased party colleague Boris Sprem.
All 123 deputies present in the Parliament chamber voted in favour of Leko, applauding his election.
Dragica Zgrebec of the SDP was elected Deputy Speaker, also unanimously. She was nominated by the ruling coalition, the Independent Democratic Serb Party and the parliamentary group representing ethnic minorities.
The voting was attended by Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic and Cabinet ministers.
