Finance Minister Slavko Linic said on Thursday the International Monetary Fund (IMF) too gave credit to the Zoran Milanovic cabinet for managing to preserve Croatia's financial stability, although not at the pace the IMF expected.

"It is the government's job to protect Croatia's financial stability and the government is slowly changing the evil, and that evil is living on credit and destroying Croatia's future with abnormal consumption, in the way we think is best for the economy and other taxpayers. In that part we are managing to control it and we got recognition for it, at least from the IMF, when we couldn't get it from many scientists in Croatia or analysts or whatever they call themselves," the minister told reporters outside the government seat when asked to comment on IMF recommendations.

"The government will have its policy and I believe we will know how to control spending but also how to fight for economic growth," Linic said.
