Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) president Tomislav Karamarko criticised the government of Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic on Thursday for neglecting national interests.

"With such guardians of national interests, we don't need enemies at all. The best way for them to look after national interests is to step down," Karamarko told the press in the Parliament building.

He described Milanovic's speech during Question Time in Parliament on Tuesday as "vulgar, aggressive and rude."

Karamarko said that the HDZ had forced the government to backtrack on the subject of construction of the Peljesac bridge.

"The whole show was staged so that Milanovic could push through his statement about a two-thirds majority," he said, commenting on the prime minister's announcement in Parliament that ratification of the border agreement between Croatia and Bosnia would require a two-thirds majority.
