The union of central and local government employees (SDLSN) issued a statement on Wednesday, ahead of the signing of the Collective Agreement for civil servants on Thursday, warning the government not to put civil servants and public-sector employees in an unequal position, in a situation when some of the public-sector unions are blocking the amendment of the Collective Agreement for public-sector employees.

The SDLSN said that this could result in a situation where employees might have different entitlements and allowances from the same employer -- the government.

Those who have reached an agreement with the government will be "rewarded" with a reduced public transport allowance, nonpayment of the full amount of jubilee awards and per diems, suspension of Christmas bonuses and holiday cash grants, while those who have not agreed with the government, in case their Collective Agreement is terminated, will continue to receive the full amount of their entitlements for another three months after the termination.

If, on the other hand, their Collective Agreement is not terminated, but the government decides to cut their salaries by modifying their wage scales, the principle of equal pay for equal work will be upset, because employees in the public sector, whose salaries are paid from the state budget, will be paid differently, the union said.
