A delegation of the Croatian government, led by Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic, Interior Minister Ranko Ostojic and Defence Minister Anto Kotromanovic, as well as a delegation of Homeland War associations, laid wreaths at the Central Cross at Zagreb's Mirogoj cemetery on Sunday to honour Homeland War soldiers on the occasion of Croatia's European Union admission.

Croatian war veterans deserve the most credit for what we are witnessing today and for everything we are about to face tomorrow, Veterans Minister Predrag Matic said after the wreath-laying ceremony. "Today we are remembering with pride Croatian war veterans who in the 1990s had this exact vision, freedom, security and well-being. Our freedom has been secured by war veterans, we gained our security with NATO entry and well-being should start tomorrow, but there is a lot to be done," he said.

Asked about the message Croatia was sending to its neighbours, Matic said "Let them follow our path. It is not easy or short, but if they make an effort they too will come to this moment," Matic said.
