The feasibility study commissioned by the European Commission has shown that the Peljesac bridge is the best option to connect Croatia's south with the rest of the country, First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and European Affairs Minister Vesna Pusic said on Thursday.

Speaking to the press ahead of a government session, she announced that she would discuss the bridge with the European Commission's vice president for trans-European networks and transport.

Pusic said the feasibility study showed that the bridge was the best option financially, politically as well as in Schengen and phytosanitary terms.

"We must make this project acceptable, but the feasibility study was commissioned by the European Commission which also chose the agency that made the study. Two bridge variants have been taken into consideration with access roads and a road along Peljesac which received 14 points, while the corridor through Bosnia and Herzegovina received minus 19 points," Pusic said.

"Those are topics we must work on and unions' criticisms are normal in democracies, but it is up to the people who won confidence in elections to take responsibility, complete projects and achieve results," she added.
