The European Commission welcomed the ratification of Croatia's EU accession treaty by the Slovenian parliament on Tuesday, saying that it looked forward to welcoming Croatia as a new member of the European Union.

We welcome the fact that the Slovenian parliament has today ratified the Croatian accession treaty. We look forward to completion of the ratification process in the remaining member states so that we can welcome Croatia as the 28th EU member as of July 1 this year, Commission spokesman Alexandre Polack said.

Polack recalled that last week the Commission released a final monitoring report in which it clearly confirmed that Croatia was ready to accede on July 1.

The Slovenian parliament unanimously ratified the Croatian accession treaty on Tuesday morning. Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic and Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic attended the parliamentary session as guests.
