Slightly over 1.3 million voters, or 33.79% of the electorate, cast their ballots in the referendum on Croatia's accession to the European Union by 1600 hours on Sunday, the State Election Commission (DIP) said.
The turnout was the biggest in the Zagreb area (40.05%) and the lowest in Vukovar-Srijem County (25.53%). By comparison, in recent parliamentary elections, held on December 4 last year, 46.6% of voters turned out for the vote by 1600 hours.
No serious incidents were reported at polling stations, other than several anti-EU graffiti.
Polling stations close at 1900 hours and the DIP is due to release preliminary results at 2200 hours.
