The peak of the Danube flood wave passed through the easternmost Croatian town of Ilok on Sunday evening, however, local authorities called for being still on alert due to high levels of water both in the Danube and in its tributaries in the area.

The record high levels of Danube have not left any serious damage after Croatia took preventive measures to reinforce embankments during the deluge on the Danube upstream in central Europe this past week.

For instance, as many as 500,000 sand bags were used to raise levees along the Danube and other rivers in east Croatia.
