The Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), Serge Brammertz, says in his latest report to the UN Security Council that Serbia's efforts to arrest the two remaining fugitives -- Bosnian Serb wartime military commander Ratko Mladic and Croatian Serb rebel leader Goran Hadzic -- "remain problematic".

Serbia's efforts to apprehend the two remaining fugitives are questionable, and that is the most critical factor of Serbia'c obligation to cooperate with the Office of the Prosecutor, Brammertz said in a written report to the UN Security Council on November 17, a copy of which Hina obtained on Tuesday.

Brammertz is due to present the report to the Security Council orally on December 6.

The Chief Prosecutor says that his office has asked the Serbian authorities to take more resolute steps to arrest the fugitives, recommending that they review their strategy and improve their operational approach.

Despite the demonstrated commitment of the authorities to apprehend the fugitives and the efforts by operational services, few concrete results have been obtained over the past six months, Brammertz said, urging the authorities in Belgrade to remove the numerous shortcomings in the conduct of their operations and to use all means at their disposal to track down the two fugitives.
