The autopsy and identification of the eight Czech tourists killed in a bus crash in Croatia on Saturday was completed at the Karlovac General Hospital on Wednesday.

The bodies are awaiting transport to the Czech Republic, county prosecutor Gordana Krizanic told the media.

The chief of pathology at the Karlovac hospital, Dr Mira Mlinac Lucijanic, told the press the cause of death of the eight tourist was "dangerous trauma from the traffic accident."

Hospital manager Nedjeljko Strikic said the bodies were transported to Gospic, where the City Hall will issue death certificates without which the bodies could neither be taken over nor transported.

Police will be present when the bodies are taken over, Strikic said, adding that according to procedure the coffins must be sealed, otherwise the bodies could not cross the border.

The Czech Embassy in Zagreb said it was still not known whether the bodies would be transported today or tomorrow.
