The Croatian Employment Service (HZZ) recorded 355,598 unemployed on 30 April 2013 which was 12,960 lower month on month or a drop of 3.5%, however, year on year there was 9.9% or 31,876 more unemployed, HZZ reported on Friday.
April was the second consecutive month recording a fall in the number of the unemployed m-o-m.
This trend is usual for this time of year considering that seasonal employment starts around now particularly due to increased needs in tourism and HZZ said that virtually every fourth newly-employed person found work in hospitality and similar services, mostly in Adriatic counties.
The HZZ notes that 33,554 were struck from the register and 24,787 of these had found employment which is 6.9% less y-on-y.
In April there were 20,594 newly registered unemployed which was 8.6% higher y-on-y.
Every fifth unemployed person registered with HZZ or 73,672 were eligible for unemployment benefits.
