The 12th Days of Oris, the biggest international architectural symposium in this part of Europe, began in Zagreb on Saturday with the presentation of the Oris award for outstanding creative contribution to architecture to the 3LHD Studio for its Lone hotel project in the northern Adriatic resort of Rovinj last year.

The award was presented by President Ivo Josipovic. The two-day event brought together more than 2,000 architects from Croatia and abroad. It was being held under the auspices of President Josipovic, the Croatian culture and construction ministries, and the cities of Zagreb and Dubrovnik.

Josipovic said this gathering generated optimism and brought the region together in a time of crisis, describing it as an example of a desirable European policy.

Deputy Construction and Physical Planning Minister Anka Mrak Taritas underlined the need for architects, the public administration and politics to work together on the preservation of space as an outstanding public good.

Eminent guests also delivered speeches, including Sou Fujimoto, Martha Thorne, Odile Decq, and Karim Rashid.
