The management of the Vecernji List daily on Friday denounced a protest organised earlier in the day by the Croatian Journalists Union (SNH) and the Croatian Journalists Association (HND) outside the daily's offices as an act of manipulation.

The management claims that the previous collective agreement for the daily's employees had expired, but that the workers' union was continuing to claim that the management had cancelled the collective agreement.

"In an act of ultimate hypocrisy, the SNH supports the ongoing strike in a media company which, regardless of its business results, guarantees such rights which we doubt exist in any other media company," the management says in a statement.

Along with previously published information about the net salary in Vecernji List amounting to HRK 9,200, the management says in its latest statement that Vecernji List employees are also entitled to a Christmas bonus of HRK 2,000, a child bonus of HRK 600, an Easter bonus of HRK 400, coverage of travel expenses in the amount of up to HRK 290, and many other benefits.

The management notes that it never stated that it refused the collective agreement, but that it cannot promise unrealistic benefits for which there is no money.

Despite the ongoing strike, Vecernji List's circulation is stable, the management said.
