At the end of September there was 311,100 unemployed persons registered with the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ) which is 3.2 percent or 9,517 people more than in August and 9.7 percent of 27,433 more people unemployed compared to September last year.
A total of 32,691 people registered as newly unemployed which is 4 percent more than in September 2011.
The absolute largest number of unemployed is in Zagreb (41,704 or 13.4 percent of the total number of unemployed in Croatia), followed by Split-Dalmatia County (40,904 or 13.1 percent). The lowest number of unemployed persons was recorded in Lika-Senj County (2,945 or 0.9 percent).
The number of unemployed grew in all counties around the country compared to the same month last year, with the greatest increase being recorded in Koprivnica-Krizevci County (an increase of 21.9 percent).
A total of 23,174 people were stricken from the unemployment register, which is 30 percent less than in September last year, of whom 14,145 found employment.
Only 21.9 percent of the people registered as unemployed were eligible for unemployment allowances, which is 4.7 percent more than in September last year.
