A 53-year-old man from Zagreb died on Thursday from complications caused by the swine flu virus H1N1, a doctor at the Fran Mihaljevic Clinic said in the evening.

The man was admitted to hospital on January 3 complaining about heavy breathing, muscle pain and other flu symptoms. He was the second person to have died of swine flu in Croatia this season. The first death occurred on December 28.

The doctor said that 48 patients with flu symptoms were being treated at the clinic, of whom five were in intensive care.
