Workers of Rijeka's "3. maj" shipyard held a protest rally on Thursday to bring attention to what they said was the untenable situation in the shipyard.

The Metal Workers Union demanded that the government provide a loan guarantee for the construction of tankers for domestic clients and that it appoint new members of the managing board as soon as possible to replace the present interim management.

It also demanded urgent resolution of the problem of the sale of the Monte Carlo car ferry after the ordering party refused to pay for it, the payment of salaries for January, and the reinstatement of workers who had been put on the waiting list.

"Unless these demands are met, we will organise a major protest rally in the centre of Rijeka and then we will not just repeat our demands, but will also demand resignation of responsible members of the government," union steward Juraj Soljic said.
