Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic commented on Thursday on allegations that former chief of police Oliver Grbic had last year ordered secret surveillance of chief public prosecutor Mladen Bajic and eight journalists.

"That happened during the term of the previous administration and you should ask them. Unlike them, I don't jump to conclusions, I like to check things first. I'm not running away from problems, but I won't accuse anyone a priori. We'll see what the internal inquiry shows. Perhaps some people will have to give a few explanations," Milanovic told the press in Brussels ahead of a summit of EU leaders which he was attending as an observer.

"We should wait for at least a day or two to see how things stand. I will stop here because I don't want to trample over my political opponents," he added.
