Pessimism is growing amongst Croatian citizens with regard to their financial situation and the economic state of the country with 58% of citizens saying that their financial situation was worse off than last year, 42% consider that their situation will get worse this year and 46% said that they are barely making ends meet.

These are results of a survey conducted by the GfK on a sample of one thousand citizens in December last year testing the Barometer/Consumer climate.

The number of people who consider that their financial situation is deteriorating is growing. In 2011 this was 47% while this year that number is 58%.

Compared to last year the same number of citizens - 12% - believe that their situation will improve at least slightly but the number who consider that their situation will just get worse is growing.

A vast majority of Croatians - 82% - believe that unemployment will continue to grow over the next 12 months.

Even though the number of citizens who can manage to put away some savings has contracted compared to 2011, 24% are still managing to set aside some savings.

At the same time the number of households that have had to dip into their savings has grown from 12% to 16% on the year.
