Over 10,000 people gathered in central Ljubljana on Friday afternoon for a new protest march against the government and the country's political elites.

Police were securing the government and parliament buildings and were monitoring the march route from helicopters. No incidents were reported.

Protesters, who dubbed their protest "the third Slovenian uprising", demanded resignations from Prime Minister Janez Jansa and Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Jankovic accusing them of corruption, and also spoke against members of parliament.

Demonstrators were particularly displeased with Prime Minister Jansa and his statement that the protests were backed by the old leftist elite attempting to topple his government. Jansa addressed his followers in a video message at a support rally in the morning urging them to oppose "left-wing fascism".

Anti-government protestors were carrying banners and calling prominent politicians thieves. The protest was taking place in a Carnival atmosphere, accompanied by many cultural events as the country was observing a national cultural holiday on Friday.
