The president of the Association of Independent Croatian Farmers (NHS), Mato Mlinaric, said in the eastern city of Osijek on Sunday that the association was against the export of fodder and corn and soya wheat because it believes that there will be a shortage of these products in Croatia and that only merchant lobbies will make profit of the export.

Asked to comment on the Agricultural Ministry plan to cushion the damage caused by drought through export customs fees and by exempting tenantry farms from paying lease this year, Mlinaric said exempting tenantry farms from paying lease was a good move for those working on tenantry farms, stressing however that the drought also hit those who own land and that they needed help too.

Asked if he supported the reduction of a VAT rate for food products, Mlinaric said his association presented this idea to the public in the spring.
