Postponing elections in this situation is a slow agony which is only becoming deeper, Social Democratic Party president Zoran Milanovic has said.
He said it would be politically wise of the incumbent government to say that the current climate was much different than the one in 2007 and to see if it had the support of the public.
Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor "currently enjoys solid popularity, but that's deceptive, it can drop," Milanovic said, adding that when the rating was high, so were expectations, and that those of Kosor were huge, as the crisis was deep.
He said Kosor had awoken the illusion that she could change the climate in Croatia.
"She carried out two or three purges and made a half-agreement with Slovenia, but she could have done better," Milanovic said, adding her Croatian Democratic Union party had created a system that had to be changed completely.
He said the HDZ's partners were people living from the current political situation so that calling early elections would vitally endanger their interests.
