The Social Democratic is the heart of good changes, the SDP leader and Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic said at the SDP election convention in Zagreb on Saturday, calling on citizens and his party's members for a bit more patience before those good changes became visible.

"The changes are here, they are coming, lasting but they are not discernible at every moment because of their dynamics. We will need the backing from all citizens, and first of all from the SDP membership, for those changes. I request understanding and a bit of patience," Milanovic said in his report on the party's performance in the last four years.

Milanovic said that in the last 20 years, the SDP had shown its ability to know when it should be transformed and at which pace, adding that the party was the heart of good changes in 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2007.

"The changes which Croatia now needs require the calm Northern judgement and the Southern energy," he added.

It is important to shape our future according to our own rules and make of Croatia a modern, energetic and strong country, the SDP leader said.

He said that there were no marvellous ideas that would change the world now but that wise decisions and long-term assessments wee necessary.

"I expect the support from citizens and SDP members as it will be tough for us. We are not jeopardised, our survival is not at risk. These challenges are much smaller than the challenges Croatia had 20 years ago, but they are more serious as they will define us," he told the SDP convention.

Some 2,300 delegates ate the convention unanimously endorsed his report.
