Judges in the trial for the murder of the co-owner of the political weekly Nacional, Ivo Pukanic, have ordered a new report from telecommunications experts.
The report is expected to be completed by early September when the trial is due to resume after the summer break, Zagreb County Court judge Ivana Krsul said on Thursday.
The order for a new examination of telephone calls involving the accused, some of the witnesses and Pukanic and their location at the time of the call, came after judges initially rejected such a request from the defence on June 10.
Judge Krsul said that the court had received reports from the Dutch authorities concerning the alleged organiser of Pukanic's murder, Serbian national Sreten Jocic, and his close friend, Slobodan Djurovic.
The two had been the subjects of organised crime investigations in the Netherlands, dubbed "Blaw" and "Paars". Operation Blaw was launched following information that preparations were under way to free Jocic from a Dutch prison, while Operation Paars was based on suspicions that Jocic's associates were preparing an assassination.
The documents have been sent for translation, after which the court will decide whether or not they will be admitted in evidence.
The last hearing before the summer break was set for July 14.
Pukanic and his business associate, Niko Franjic, were killed by a bomb outside the Nacional building in central Zagreb in October 2008. Six accused are on trial in Zagreb and another three in Belgrade.
