State Election Commission (DIP) chair Branko Hrvatin said on Sunday evening that the election day had passed in an orderly fashion, with sporadic irregularities, noting that it was necessary to amend the election legislation as soon as possible due to a number of irregularities reported during the election campaign.
DIP has been warning of irregularities related to voter lists for at least three years and we urge adopting a single election code to regulate, in line with the same principles, all elections, not only parliamentary ones, but local and presidential elections as well, and to update rules on the media conduct and the conduct of political parties in the media, on the voter register, and the organisation of out-of-country voting, said Hrvatin.
He added that the first official election results would be announced at 2100 hours and that members of the public would be able to see them on DIP's web site, as well as that a news conference would be held at midnight to present official results on the votes counted by then.
