Croatian Finance Minister Ivan Suker said in Brussels on Tuesday that if summoned, he would testify in an investigation into the privatisation of the Sibenik-based light metal factory TLM, as that was the civic duty of every citizen, regardless of their position.
Suker was in Brussels to attend a meeting of economy and finance ministers from European Union member and candidate countries. Press asked him to comment on the TLM privatisation and whether he would testify if summoned.
"I don't think that any Croatian official would run away from a summons. Every institution in Croatia should be allowed to do its job and then it will be better for everyone. One should support the prime minister, the government and all institutions which have launched a merciless clampdown on corruption," Suker said.
Regarding the TLM privatisation, he said an investigation was under way and that it was inappropriate of state officials to comment on it.
"There are also documents on Privatisation Fund Steering Committee discussions. It is known who attended the sessions, there is a government decision and in this context you can raise a thousand other privatisation issues, you can raise the issue of the law on due but unpaid liabilities which was adopted by the government in 2002 and 2003. You can raise a whole series of issues," Suker said.
